when i look on ebay the cheapest kits are suprise suprise those kits? whats the difference between the "banned" bodies and the allowed ones? wouldnt it be cool to allow all of the tamiya bodies to race??

Totally agree, our club submitted a remit last year to get the bodies not so regulated, so you could get vans, trucks etc ...... Didn't get the required votes at the AGM.....M chassis go so slow it doesn't really make any difference aerodynamically what you run....but others think different

You still have time to submit to the NZRCA the shells you would like considered... needs to be done through your local club.

I think youd get more entries in mini if the body restrictions were relaxed. Sinking around double the price for an approved mini kit vs the vw/mito/mx5 etc bodied kits just isnt an incentive especially when its touted as a fun cheap class.....how about we make it cheaper and more fun by allowing more body choice.

As Darryl eluded too, You still have an opportunity to get bodies added via Submission to the NZRCA through your club - bodies are added at their discretion.
Bodies on the list apply to NZRCA Sanctioned events ( but should be encouraged at club level too ) Have a talk to your club as they may not be as strict at club events.
Alternatively put together a good remit, submit it to your club and you never know your luck when Voting time comes around again next year (y)

OK what you have to check is there is 2 versions of the mini. One is legal one isn't. I'm not up with them but it came with different stuff from the original one. I think the rally version isn't legal.
And yes sometimes aero makes a difference even at that speed.

What's the point of having a list of approved bodies when the list is soo vast like that, jeez there's everything from sports coupes to damn near station wagons on that list, it seems all it is excluding is shoe boxes and gaffer tape, maybe a we revision of the rule may be required next agm, more like the old tc body rule

I should note that my post above is the 2016 list. I haven't seen the 2017 rules books or lists and wasn't at the AGM, so don't know what may have changed.

my point is that the current available kits on the net at a reasonable price arent on the list...so you have to buy a kit AND THEN another body. or spend$$$$ to buy a kit that has an approved tamiya body. those kits are a lot more expensive than the alfa/mx5/vw golf.
lets face it just about all of the current classes are "competitive" classes...there arent any fun classes and the mini class is the nearest were gonna get here in NZ to the VTA class run in the states where you can run some cool bodies and have a bit of fun.
how cool would it be to see a mini vs a datsun ute vs a VW combi vs a toyota MR2 on the track?

Im not advocating changing the tech rules for the chassis, just freeing up the body restrictions to suit the current kit pricing market

Why are they cheaper - are they lower spec? If so, maybe it's a false economy?

I'm pretty sure they are the kits that don't meet the nzrca rules out of the box from memory.

Nope - The kits are standard and meet requirements just checked them on rcmart

Lunchie ( don't know your real name lol ) I think you would have a good case to get these bodies added to the list without much trouble - your submission would just need to be supported with some pics of the kits / links to the kits, I don't think it would be an unreasonable request to have your examples added.

Right, the MX5 kit for example (58624) is not on the illegal list.

A22.1 Any Tamiya M03/M05 chassis car apart from the below exceptions may be used.
A22.2 Kits deemed to be illegal:
a. RC Fiat Abarth 1000 TCR – M05 Berlina Corse (#58465)
b. RC Suzuki Swift Super 1600 – M05Ra (#58464/#58471)
c. Any M03/M05 PRO kit (#58443/#84131)
d. Any M03/M05 R kit (#84023/#49417)

So therefore in my eyes you can buy this kit and run that body.

So that would then mean by default you should be able to buy the MX5 body and run it.

Some may disagree however who is to say you have not bought that kit not just the body.

Yes another grey area, love the color grey.
